Jeremy Corbyn exaggerates the number of Brits living in Europe.
Déclaration
14 avril 2016
Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the opposition in Britain, during his first speech on the EU referendum claimed that « There are nearly three-quarters of a million British people living in Spain and over two million living in other parts of Europe. »
Contradiction
2015
According to Eurostat, the number of UK citizens living in Spain in 2015 was at almost 302,000. The number of Brits living in Spain was higher before the financial crisis hit – more than 351,000 in 2008 – but has never been nearly as high as Corbyn’s claim of 750,000.
Again 2 million British people living in other parts of Europe is an exaggeration, with the UN estimating that there were 1.2 million UK-born people living in other EU countries, including Spain, in 2015.
